It didn't start out as a problem....
This 1967 912 belonged to my dear old Dad for 20 years or more. Having sentimental value, and at least some of the prestige of it's more powerful and modern breed, I made it known on more than one occasion that should it come up for disposition, that I would like to be first in line!

So, May of '99, Dad having cut back on his driving, and I being the proud heir, and thinking that needed rebuild and restoration were within my amateur skill levels, I became the owner of the Green Hornet, the Patriarch's Porsche, the Pride of der Fatherland!

Home it came on a dark and stormy night. Closer inspection in the light of the heated garage disclosed oil leaks worthy of the Exxon Valdeez. Compression on all four cylinders is a.w.o.l, and there have been tin-worms at work on the floor pans and rocker panels! Discount store snow tires all around, fairly weather cracked have decent tread, but precious little traction.

Still, it runs, after a fashion, good enough for an easy drive on a sunny day. Just don't pull out ahead of fast traffic, and don't even think about reaching for the heater! The upholstry is original and good, thanks to years of fake sheepskin covers. All in all a good candidate for restoration, that calls out for attention each and every time I walk by its spot in the shop on the way to doing something else.

Update - July 2002
Egads! Upon attempting a start-up, to shuffle the Hornet to a yet more distant part of the garage, gasoline puddling on the floor in mass quanitity, motivated me to undertake and complete the first step in restoration of this neglected project. That is, cleaning and overhauling of the carburators! Kits were obtained from Pelican Parts, and a fresh can of carb dip put to use. Thorough cleaning of years of accumulated grunge, and attention to getting all the itty-bitty parts back in the proper places, and careful setting of various settings, result in SUCCESS! No more fuel leaking, and almost instant start up. Reduced hesitation too! The Green Hornet hasn't run this well in years! Border line drivable. I can only imagine the future benefits of cylinder compression higher than 60-70 lbs average, to say nothing of terminating the Exxon-Valdeez oil leaks.
More to Follow.....someday.....maybe.....Trust me!
